A night where Melbourne celebrated the arts and culture. Melbourne White Night 2014 on 22nd of Feb was such a great success! For one night, the city did not sleep.
From 7PM to 7AM the next morning, Melbourne CBD was alive with light projections, colours, live performances, exhibitions, music… The atmosphere was pulsating with Melburnians and tourists alike that flocked to the CBD to celebrate the event.
It was great to see lighting take center stage with lots of colourful and animated projections on building facades, light installations, interactions and amazing transformations.
Below are some moments captured by us at Lightbox Studio.
Theatre Royal was built in 1927-28, during the boom period of cinema construction, at the rear of the Mechanics’ Institute in Camperdown. It was designed by a local architect W Perry Knights.
The theatre consists of a main flat auditorium (hall) which is also used for public meetings, balls and dances and civic events and a balcony seating area on level mezzanine.
Both Theatre Royal and Mechanics’ Institute are of historical and social importance to the Camperdown.
Lightbox Studio have completed a lighting upgrade design for Theatre Royal with care given to the luminaire selection to preserve its heritage style while incorporating modern technologies. Using LED light source for the upgrade, energy consumption saving will be in the order of 80% compared to the current incandescent bulbs.
We have gained approval from the Council for our design and have obtained a permit exemption from Heritage Victoria.
The construction phase will start in the near future and we will update with more images of the project once it is completed. Can’t wait!
